Rando 4: Rios TAKE 2

Rios don't be so hard on yourself it looks pretty extreme.

Rando 4: Rios

Hey guess what is impossible, shit, and something i'm terrible at. Give up? Its woodcarving, its fucking wood carving. God damn this is so hard, why is it so hard, why cant I produce anything at all. Have you ever had a stupid idea, and you know its a terrible idea but do it anyway? If not, see below and youll see what I mean.

See that right there, that was a ladder, cuz you know like no holds barred ladder match. Just to get it to that point took longer than I want to admit, so whatever, you win rando.

So glad I made this.

Oh hey guys whats up, want to see this awful thing I made? So like any true American, when I hear the words home improvement, I of course think of Al Borland and Tim "The Toolman" Taylor. So I decided to make a shitty sculpture in Al's honor. Below is my model that I totally followed

So since I figured no matter what I did, it was going to be terrible anyway, I may as well experiment. Following that thought, I decided to use a program called Sculptris, which is a digital sculpting program. So when you fire this bad boy up, all you start with is a little ball of clay, which you can pinch, smooth, inflate and pull.

People can make some pretty neat shit with this thing, but as we all know I am not one of those people. Instead I will show you the true terrors I have created with this program. So first you make a scary alien head,

 Eyes and a penis nose,

and then some beard and stash, and more details to just to really bring out that classic Al.

Don't worry though guys, hair will bring this all together. It's not like hair is real hard or anything.

Cool all done, now time to paint. Looking awesome. Don't worry, color will bring this even more together.

All done, here is the final Al, in all his bearded glory.

Well whatever it worked out better than I thought. Also, here is a sweet cell shaded looking version, and then two of my earlier works to test out the program that I called terror bone and nightmare scream, sweet dreams you fucks.

Okay so here is this super shitty board game I made. The game is called Wizard Sprint, because I'm the best at coming up with names. The rules of the game are simple: you have to get from one end of the board to the other and back, whoever does it first wins, however there are a few twists.

Look how great this looks
At the start of the game, each player gets 3 cards from each category, attack, defense and movement.
Example of an Attack Card
On the start of players turn, they can either use a movement or attack card, and then roll the die like normal to move. A defending player can use a card to defend against an attack, but they don't get to see what card their attacker is using until after they play a defense card.
One of the many(3) defense cards

Anyway that is pretty much it, roll the die, attack a dude you hate, try to defend yourself. Now let me go into how I made it.
Basically with this motherfucker
Since everyone knows I cant draw for shit, I stole a bunch of spell images from one of my favorite games HOMM3. I took the images, changed some of the colors so that they all matched, and just made a background color matching the cards color. I also took a card border I found online, and a picture of a random shield or other shit for the backs.
For the boards, I just found some backgrounds I liked, cropped them and put some movement space thing I found online, and then messed with the colorize settings to make each boards movement spaces look different.

Original Spell

running dude
Add some color and a border, bam you got a card back

Colorize that shit
So computer wise, that's all the computer stuff I did, now let me go over all the awful manual labor I did for this fucking thing. First off, I bought a pack of little canvas boards from Michael s, as well as a pack of mythical creatures for players, some beads for mines, card stock, glue and some brushes for the cards and to glue the pictures on the boards.
For all the cards, I used LibreOffice Draw to line them all up, so when I printed them back to back, they would look like real cards. I also used it to line up the spaces for the boards as well.

Like So
After that I printed them out on my dads shitty printer, and cut those fuckers out.
Hope I cut these out straight

Fuck

Shit

Fuck it
So After that shit was over, I planned out the board with the little dudes I bought,
Lined up the spaces, printed out the board glued that shit on
Finally a use for my old Spanish books
Tried to make hinges so I could fold it.
it worked okay
And once that shit dried, I bagged everything up, and put it in a gift box I got for Christmas.

the hinges didn't work okay it turns out
Now its time for my favorite part, things I fucked up, I'll just give it to you in a nice bullet point.
  • I cant draw for shit, and I have no sense of color
  • I couldn't cut in a straight line, so some shit is strange or has white parts
  • The glue dried strange, so there are some wrinkles, also the boards shifted I guess, so the spaces from one to the other doesn't really match up.
  • Barely play tested it.
  • I didn't just withdraw and let charlie win.
  • Being friends with Kwon/ all you fucks

Pong

Hey everyone I made pong in JavaScript, as an introduction to animations and inputs from the keyboard for myself. I might add some more features to it later, and update this post, but right now it is pretty standard. I made a computer player, who should be beatable(gonna be real hard though), there is no score cap, and use W and D for up and down. Check it out

FYYCDT: Challenge 1

Welcome to a new segment for the Labs! This is our first issue of Fuck You, You Can't Do That in which our leading scientists attempt to do things outside their ability just to prove how incompetent they are.

The rules are simple: the issuer invents a challenge for the other members of the lab, giving them instructions and time limits and at the end of the allotted time there is a judgment rendered to see who was just marginally less disappointing.

To kick us off I'm issuing the challenge to Rios and Mike: I want you to make a bow and three arrows out of any material you wish. The bows and craftsmen will be judged based off of an archery contest that is to be held the weekend of June 15th and the results will be posted to these very labs.

Gentlemen, I expect you to document your attempts for content that will be posted at the end of the competition to make sure you don't copy each other and we have more content other than the inevitable emergency room posts.

Good luck, bad labs.

Model That: Boxraffe

Alright so originally I was going to use blender to make this, but my girlfriend has been using this other program, Lightwave Modeler, so I figured id pick up the trial and give it a whirl. First as any inexperienced modeler does, I started with a box, i didn't take a picture of it, but i figured everyone knows what a box looks like.
Once I had the box, I started expanding it, and started to make a body and a neck.

After that I started making a head and just sort of forming the body so it looked less box like and more..well it sort of looks like a bird.It stays looking like a bird for a while, but i just kept trying to make it look more like an animal and less like a box.

So after I was done making the body, I started to give it some legs and just sort of kept messing around with it so it started looking more like a giraffe.

At this point, I was fairly satisfied with the shape of it, gave it some ears and now it really is starting to look like something, so I found a giraffe print online, and used that bad boy on my model.

This was basically the finished product, now, I did a tiny bit more tweaking, and decided it was ready for some renderin. I wanted a background, but i didn't really know how to do it, so i just took a square and made it gigantic, colored it and bent it. I'm sure there are better ways(i'd hope) but for now it worked
After I was done aiming the camera and trying to get the light in the right spot, this down here is the final product. The original green I used looked shitty when i rendered it, so i used a different color in the end. It still looks like a box and like something out of a video game from the 90's, but not too bad for a first attempt considering I didn't use tutorials and just sort of winged it.

Some of you may ask, Rios where are the eyes? Well because I had the "discovery edition" it gave me shit about putting in eyes and wouldn't let me save, so i decided to scrap them and just leave it as a soulless box monster. Eventually ill have to get the full version, and start watching some tutorials.

Blender Snowman

Hey guys,

So since I play TF2 pretty often and see all this community made stuff, I decided why not hop on the gravy train and start making and submitting hats and stuff. Unfortunately it turned out to be harder than I thought, and it turns out you cant just magic yourself a hat out of thin air. So I looked up some tutorials, and stumbled on this 3d creation tool called blender. I watched a few video tutorials and decided to make something dumb that I could show everyone.

Here is a Front view of this snowman I made
And the side view
So its hard to say exactly how I made it, pretty much I just followed this tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wklRKGC7ai8&feature=channel

Basically I just used basic shapes, re-sized them and put them where i wanted, making sure that the picture looked fine from all planes, and smoothed out all of the spheres so they didn't look like that dome at Epcot. Its pretty cool so far, and I hope to have more simple projects posted up soon.
