FYYCDT2: Rios

Okay so here is this super shitty board game I made. The game is called Wizard Sprint, because I'm the best at coming up with names. The rules of the game are simple: you have to get from one end of the board to the other and back, whoever does it first wins, however there are a few twists.

Look how great this looks
At the start of the game, each player gets 3 cards from each category, attack, defense and movement.
Example of an Attack Card
On the start of players turn, they can either use a movement or attack card, and then roll the die like normal to move. A defending player can use a card to defend against an attack, but they don't get to see what card their attacker is using until after they play a defense card.
One of the many(3) defense cards

Anyway that is pretty much it, roll the die, attack a dude you hate, try to defend yourself. Now let me go into how I made it.
Basically with this motherfucker
Since everyone knows I cant draw for shit, I stole a bunch of spell images from one of my favorite games HOMM3. I took the images, changed some of the colors so that they all matched, and just made a background color matching the cards color. I also took a card border I found online, and a picture of a random shield or other shit for the backs.
For the boards, I just found some backgrounds I liked, cropped them and put some movement space thing I found online, and then messed with the colorize settings to make each boards movement spaces look different.

running dude
Add some color and a border, bam you got a card back

Colorize that shit
So computer wise, that's all the computer stuff I did, now let me go over all the awful manual labor I did for this fucking thing. First off, I bought a pack of little canvas boards from Michael s, as well as a pack of mythical creatures for players, some beads for mines, card stock, glue and some brushes for the cards and to glue the pictures on the boards.
For all the cards, I used LibreOffice Draw to line them all up, so when I printed them back to back, they would look like real cards. I also used it to line up the spaces for the boards as well.

Like So
After that I printed them out on my dads shitty printer, and cut those fuckers out.
Hope I cut these out straight

Fuck

Shit

Fuck it
So After that shit was over, I planned out the board with the little dudes I bought,
Lined up the spaces, printed out the board glued that shit on
Finally a use for my old Spanish books
Tried to make hinges so I could fold it.
it worked okay
And once that shit dried, I bagged everything up, and put it in a gift box I got for Christmas.

the hinges didn't work okay it turns out
Now its time for my favorite part, things I fucked up, I'll just give it to you in a nice bullet point.
  • I cant draw for shit, and I have no sense of color
  • I couldn't cut in a straight line, so some shit is strange or has white parts
  • The glue dried strange, so there are some wrinkles, also the boards shifted I guess, so the spaces from one to the other doesn't really match up.
  • Barely play tested it.
  • I didn't just withdraw and let charlie win.
  • Being friends with Kwon/ all you fucks

Did you know that sculpting planes out of old cans is a thing that people like to do?

Did you know I am really bad at it?

Thanks to the randomizer you now know both of these things.

Fresca! The best material to make planes.

GOD I NEED MORE PLANESTUFF.

Flatten those can dudes out, and glue them flat with a hot glue gun.

Glue them three wide.

Cut out a wing stencil. I wanted mine to resemble a Spitfire's wings.

Trace the stencil with an eraseable marker.

Cut it out with scissors.

Cram it across the body of the can.

Looks awful. Rios beat me by 2 minutes. fuck you rios.

Pong

Hey everyone I made pong in JavaScript, as an introduction to animations and inputs from the keyboard for myself. I might add some more features to it later, and update this post, but right now it is pretty standard. I made a computer player, who should be beatable(gonna be real hard though), there is no score cap, and use W and D for up and down. Check it out

FYYCDT 1: Prize

Mike won the first FYYCDT challenge with his PVC bow due to its originality and functionality; outdoing Rios' more traditional branch bow. Rios did compete, he just didn't post yet (look I know the rule of the internet is "pics or it didn't happen," but this happened, ok?)

The winner of FYYCDT gets a prize to be determined and created by the challenge issuer and to fit the theme of martial prowess I decided to make a shield with a house sigil for the winner.

Materials
Wood (3: 1x5x6 and 1: 2x4x6)
Screws
Button Plugs
Belt
String
Miter saw
Jigsaw
Screwdriver
Paints
Primer
Painter's Tape
Router

Bisect those 3(1x5x6) to give you 6(1x5x3) MATHS!

Line them up lengthwise and clamp em in place. Find the center point, measure about 14" of string and swing an arc, drawing the circumference of the layout

Add your halved 2x4 onto the board and get them situated real nice like
Square those 2x4s off so you know you have a right angle and then trace the board as your reference

I gridded out each individual plank with countersunk holes to prevent the wood from splitting, and then drilled the 2x4 into place

Cellar door project complete

Flip it over and look at the front at your (poorly) lines and get your jig handy

Jig, jig like the wind! I really struggled to make good cuts, but I was able to sand it later to my liking.

Here's the back all sanded and wiped down ready for some stain.

I went with a dark walnut stain and did my first coat, let it set 5 minutes and then wiped down the excess with a rag.

OH SHIT LOOK AT THE DEAL FOR THAT PALM POLISHER
They kinda look like little muffins
I wanted to make the button plugs look like metal, but I was honestly really disappointed with the sheen this type offered, it didn't create any of the texture from the can top

See? It's all shiny and non-textured, I sanded off the sheen with some fine grain sand paper.

Now to prime, make sure to tape off the edges of your stain. I used spray primer so cover everything to prevent dusting.

Primed with two coats

I bought a little color paint sample because I needed a small amount and kinda dug the color.

Two coats of paint

I freehand drew a bear paw on the shield and then added the painter's tape, cutting out the design to make a stencil.

Notice how I didn't cover everything, don't be lazy like me, put some newspaper on that thing, prevent any stray spray paint.... Straypaint?

Peel away. Peeling anything is so satisfying, glue on your hands, saran wrap, scabs, painter's tape is no exception.

Check out the back, we need to grip this thing. So pick a belt to ruin and get to ruining it.

OH NO, MY PANTS

To keep the belts in place I used some left over wood to create brackets that I routed a belt sized groove in to pinch the belt while not cracking the wood.

Stain those blocks, what are you some sort of savage?
Screw those blocks in place, and keep a little bend in those belts or else you won't get your hands and wrist in there.

Pop those button plugs into place with some wood glue and bammo, you're done.
